Summary of Book One:

Around the world, black handprints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who have crept through a slit in the sky.

In a dark and dusty shop, a devil’s supply of human teeth grows dangerously low.

And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherwordly war.

Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real, she’s prone to disappearing on mysterious "errands", she speaks many languages - not all of them human - and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color. Who is she? That is the question that haunts her, and she’s about to find out.

When beautiful, haunted Akiva fixes fiery eyes on her in an alley in Marrakesh, the result is blood and starlight, secrets unveiled, and a star-crossed love whose roots drink deep of a violent past. But will Karou live to regret learning the truth about herself?

My Thoughts:

Oh!Oh!Oh! My heart! My feels! My everything!

Daughter of Smoke & Bone is a rarity in the way that it took me hardly no time at all to fall in love with this book (about 30 pages in fact). It was a fascinating story from began to end. I found that as the story went on my curiosity grew as well. The characters seemed to be woven from pure magic and I found that I didn't truly dislike any of them until Days of Blood & Starlight. The writing made me feel even for the worst of them at some points.

These books are unlike any I've read before.
Such high fantasy, but with an honesty many books seem to lack.
There were times when I laughed and times when I was close to tears. I had such a hard time putting down these books, as the need to know more consumed me. It saddens me that I have finished the main books in this series. (There is a novella I have not yet read)

Laini Taylor writes in way that brings her characters and their worlds to life. They spring from the pages and dance before my eyes with realness a lot fantasy lacks.

Karou and Akiva have love that is consuming, a dream that might save both their races and a story that will break your heart while keeping you on the edge of your seat.

This story is romance, war, heart break, discovery of one's self and so, so much more!

Favorite Quotes:

“Hope can be a powerful force. Maybe there's no actual magic in it, but when you know what you hope for most and hold it like a light within you, you can make things happen, almost like magic.”

“It's not like there's a law against flying."
"Yes there is. The law of gravity.”

I gave the entire series 5/5 Stars
